Fresh Air Fund

Taking a break from fashion for an important message:

"The Fresh Air Fund is in need of host families for this summer. Host families are volunteers who open their hearts and homes to children from the city to give them a Fresh Air experience that can change lives. It's only for up to two weeks, but it's an experience that can change their lives forever."

Store You'll Love: Fab 208

I have a new favorite store and of course had to share for those of you who live in New York or may be visiting soon. Fab 208 is this hot pink store on 7th street - between First and Second Avenues - in the East Village, a little spot of color and happiness on an otherwise gray urban street. It screams “come in here! We have special things in here!” While some stores painted hot pink might tarnish the color’s vibrant reputation with cheap and tacky wares, you can tell right away from Fab 208’s window display that this store wants to stand out because what it’s selling stands out in a very good way.

Everything lately is vintage. I feel like the fact it’s become so trendy has taken something away from the true vintage lovers who revel in their individualism, who still take thrill in the hunt and the find, who truly appreciate each item for its history instead of grabbing it because it looks cool. But Fab 208 still caters to that crowd. While their things definitely look cool, they’re also totally unique, and owners Jo Custance-Smith and Alan Smith have found a way to make their vintage different. These aren’t the concert tees, plaid pants and fringed jackets of every other vintage shop that clutters the East Village. These pieces are recycled – they’re vintage pieces made new again with edgy embellishments and prints. So there’s a bit of the history and special vintage factor, but with a contemporary twist that makes every piece a true one-of-a-kind. And the prices make it easy to snatch up a few one-of-a-kinds.

On my recent first trip here, I bought this amazing sleeveless flannel shirt, an old men’s shirt that had been reinvented with gold spike-studs along, well, everywhere – yet somehow still subtly. They line the collar, the placket and the patch pockets. I wore it yesterday and couldn’t stop looking down at it – I’m pretty sure it’s the coolest shirt I own. I can’t wait to go back for this delicate white blouse that’s been toughened with a printed gun, or any of the lush-colored dresses in fabulous vintage silhouettes with modern, urban prints.

Another thing you should know, especially if you’re like me and hate trying things on and hate dealing with the people working in the stores usually since they’re all about the sell: the shopping experience here is nothing like that, and is nothing but pleasant. The owners will – nicely, of course! – tell if you try something on and it doesn’t work so perfectly, and they’ll help you find something that does, and then make you feel great about it. I’ve never been so comfortable stepping out of the dressing room in whatever I’m trying on. In short, go here. I promise you’ll be walking out with at least one thing that will change your closet forever.

I've fallen in love with a new line, and it's easy to see why. Eggcream NYC is sharp, edgy, total downtown New York, yet with a feminine twist. It's a different approach to dark and twisty dressing that departs from baggy grunge shapes and purposely tattered clothing. Instead, it's sexy, high-fashion, mod, contemporary-cool and, frankly, badass. The tone of the line "combines Mod Black, New Romantic and Glam hints, topped with geometric distortion," as explained by designer Dawn Han. Favorites from Paris Fashion Week

The thought of trying to blog on everyday/show of Paris Fashion Week while trying to actually maintain a full-time job and, well, life was overwhelming at best. I'll leave that job to the professionals. But, I couldn't let the most important week in fashion (and this year, easily the most dramatic) go stomping by without posting my very favorite looks - and wishing I could've included even more. So, here are some images from one of those professionals, NYMag.com.

This KILLS me to say, but Chanel was the line that underwhelmed me the most. Like in the couture line, Mr. Lagerfeld is really trying to make this skirt/dress over pants/jeans thing HAPPEN. Will it? You'll be the judge. But I'm not falling for this look, that's for sure. Beyond that, everything just looked like grungy takes on Chanel classics, which in its newness seemed a little old to me. This piece stood out, though, as something I wish there was more of on this runway.

Sheer maxi skirts are all the rage, and Givenchy found a way to meet the trends in demand while putting a fresh spin on them - wear your sheer skirt under things instead of over. This is brilliant, dark and twisty urban styling at its best - cutting edge and wearable at once. I need one of these skirts.

Gareth Pugh does amazing things with leather - who knew it could simultaneously structure and drape like that?

Parisian old-world glamour meets the on-trend '70s chic for insanely wearable uptown pieces at Lanvin.

Maison Martin Margiela - enough said. It's this playful-meets-artful deconstruction of ubiquitous staples that we turn to Margiela for.

Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen: stunning, gothic, dark romantic, princess, regal, Tudor...fashion goddess sweeping through the grounds of the Tower of London mischievously wielding a torture instrument just for kicks.

I'm ashamed to admit I've never heard of Undercover before, but thank goodness I have now. They were actually one of my favorites in terms of wearability. They've completely reinvented downtown girl wardrobe staples with cutting-edge detail and amazing fabrics.

Viktor & Rolf turn an edgy color palette and rocker silhouettes ladylike - plus, I know it's completely impractical, but I now absolutely need a cutout-shoulder trench.

Well, it's finally here: the arrival of the pants. We've known this moment was coming since last fall when designer after designer paraded out the 70's-inspired silhouette of wide-leg pants. And that's on top of the still-as-chic-as-ever tapered legs, cigarette pants and slightly cropped trousers.

I'm not a pants person. I wear leggings under dresses sometimes and that's the extent of it, and contrary to what an alarmingly large population of seemingly sane girls think, LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS. This is a sore subject for me, as it is quite the pet peeve.

However, I have long known that I would like to work some pants into the old style routine, to shake things up a bit. And there's never been a better time, with the dawn of the hot pants - not those kind of hot pants, but pants that are hot because they're so fabulously fashion-forward. If you're tired of wearing pants that look doomed for a middle America office complex, rejoice. Embrace wide-leg silhouettes with glamorous off-the-shoulder tops or crisp white button-down shirts - and always with heels. Or go a little more low-key in a cropped tailored pant with a minimalist lightweight knit and a spring trench. And if you can't afford a pair of Marc Jacob's too-shiny pink pants or Celine's (I dare say) a bit too-baggy white pants (though both are still amazing, of course), fear not. These are for inspiration. You look at these runway shots and then you take your mouse and you mosey on over to an affordable site for women's trousers. Like Bonmarche. I was just lucky to get my hands on images from Althea Harper's Fall 2011 collection and lookbook - my favorite thing about this collection is how edgy yet wearable it is.

For starters, I love how for the presentation, the models are wearing these cool, sharp, sleek futuristic designs with hair and makeup that channels more of an old Hollywood vibe. It sort of demands that we redefine our ideas about what is classic glamour. We always associate that kind of glamour with designs from 30's, 40's and 50's Hollywood, but we should have our own version of glamour, too - what about the downtown New York glamour? Althea Harper's line makes the assertion that these looks, the looks a modern fashionista wants to wear, are the new glam.

It seems what Althea Harper masters is balance: this collection is badass, edgy, rock and roll, futuristic - but wearable. You'll get serious style creds for these looks, but no raised eyebrows. A lot of designers struggle with doing edgy without being weird. That isn't a problem here. Plus, the line is very sexy, yet in a polished, feminine sort of way. Basically, I want a good majority of the collection! Check out these looks, which seamlessly blend on-trend minimalism with this sort of New York-thirty-years-from-now edge, topped with flawless tailoring and stunning femininity.

Some Oscars Favorites

Just a few of my favorite looks from the Oscars last night...which, in my opinion, was one of the best Academy Awards in recent years as far as fashion risks being taken but done right. The diversity of gowns was better than ever, but there were minimal fashion disasters. Most looked gorgeous in intricately detailed creations and stunning silhouettes.
Interestingly enough, many of my favorites were all from Anne Hathaway...

Mila Kunis looked Victorian-romantic, frothy-frilly and princess-y without being overly precious and girly. Her look had a sexy edge and tons of covetable detail.

This picture doesn't do Melissa Leo's dress justice - a laser-cut overlay with metallic-gold underlay. So different and eye-catching in a good way.

Hailee Steinfeld has the best style for someone her age - one of the best dressed young actresses since I can remember. She always looks chic and fashion-forward, but age-appropriate. Here she just looks beautiful and like her age, yet her dress is so on-trend with its 60's-inspired hemline.

Cate Blanchett's dress was so unique, intricate and stunning. It followed the new trend we saw in Paris' couture fashion week of a sort of futuristic take on Versailles extravagance.

Love the high neckline and vintage appeal of Amy Adams' gown, made red carpet-ready by an ample dose of sparkle.

Anne Hathaway looking regal with a hint of edge in this lush crimson color...

and here she rocks a goddess look made modern with asymmetric and hard-hitting detail...

And here she nails old Hollywood glamour.

And I thought they were literally the coolest thing ever - wear it over shorts, leggings, a shorter dress - the possibilites are endless, it's insanity, I tell you! They're easy to layer and give a look instant edge. And suddenly, they've gone from micro to mega trend. Blame it on the must-have maxi lengths that made their round two appearance this fashion week, and the fact that making those lengths go sheer is a total refresh. Proenza Schouler played with prints, creating tribal looks that were at once loud and chic. Every pattern and color was mixed to perfection. And those coats that can be zipped off to be shorter are going to be huge.

3.1 Phillip Lim luxed up off-duty downtown layering with leather in unexpected silhouettes.

Rodarte carried on with a major undertone of this fashion week, which is a sort of futuristic femininity. Here, the duo took the of-the-moment ladylike look and updated it with geometric shapes, minimalist pieces, sharp lines and sheer fabrics. While the details scream modern, the overall result is vintage-inspired, with some looks even bordering on Victorian.

Marc by Marc Jacobs continued with more vintage-inspired ladylike looks, but with a cool edge that keeps them "now" and anything but stuffy.

Derek Lam was all about the glam factor, with breathtakingly beautiful gowns that were striking in their simplicity.

The Most Recent from NYFW...

Checking in after another few days with images from NYMag.com.

First off, my beloved Alexander Wang. Like always, he stepped up his game by sticking with his signature deconstructed downtown look but adding a new twist. This time, it's luxurious opulence. Diaphonous fabrics, gleaming satins, brocades, things that flow - the glamour factor was definitely turned up a notch on the ever-grungey cool Wang looks.

Ladylike, opulent, royal...totally Wu. In a short time, Jason Wu has established himself as being a master of elegance, and it's easy to see why with collections like this.

Kimberly Ovitz never disappoints - new cutting edge takes on modern downtown dressing with futuristic silhouettes and deconstructed details, plus an ever-cool color palette. She also tapped into the chunky knit thing that's still happening.

Prabal Gurung turned up the volume on the ladylike look with futuristic fabrics, electric colors and edgy details. Plus, the fluidity of his fabrics was pretty breathtaking.

Bensoni isn't reinventing the wheel...but these are clothes you can't wait to wear. Utterly feminine and flattering but made edgy with gothic Victorian themes and a pop of grunge cool.

H&M + the Conscious Collection = A Whole Lot of Pretty

OMFG. I was just on Racked, minding my own business, when they had to go and send me into a frenzy over H&M's new Conscious Collection - a line created from eco-friendly materials like organic cotton and linen. I can't believe we have to wait until April 14th for this splendor. Here's why this collection rocks my world: its pieces look are so chic and so high end-looking, they're bringing to mind lines that are a whole lot pricier than H&M, like 3.1 Phillip Lim. Plus, everything is in the incredibly NOW must-have color palette of white and neutrals, and has a focus on minimalist and boho-glam looks. I'm looking forward to adding a little edge to these pretty things with boots.

Wows from Couture Week

Have been drooling over images from Couture Week in Paris for the past few days, so thought I'd share some particular favorites...

Armani Privé:

I love how this sort of futuristic, pleathery fabric looks so wearable and soft. And I love even more this look of a chic 1950s Parisian woman visiting the Riviera - in the FUTURE. This is what fashion would like if we ran out of vacation spots hot and exclusive enough and had to start developing resorts and glamorous coastal towns on another planet.

Chanel:

For perhaps the first time ever, Chanel wasn't my favorite above all other lines. A lot looked very similar to SS 2011...but there was of course the signature texturing, intricate detail and overall ladylike loveliness, with a touch of this futuristic quality that seems to be cropping up.

Christian Dior:

Again, 1950s Parisian chic meets the future. This might be a really cheesy reference, but some of these looks remind me of the episode of "I Love Lucy" where they go to Paris - and that's a good thing. She wore some of the most fashion-forward silhouettes and most stunning tailoring. This is easy. As always, Elie Saab's collection is just unmitigated beauty and splendor. Gorgeous, ultra feminine, so textured and ethereal...like something from a Botticelli painting.

Valentino:

So, two themes are consistent among these designers: a modern take on old glamour and this sort of Elizabethan-meets-Versailles-meets-now look. Valentino's looks would be perfect for an edgy period piece. Breathtakingly beautiful and elaborate, but without losing its cool.

Some Ideas for Your Spring Shopping

I've discussed my chronic issue in which I get so very excited to finally start wearing a new season's clothes, I'll go on a shopping rampage for all things associated with the upcoming climate change, and then I'll enjoy it for maybe two months MAX before I start the entire process over again for the next season. After dying for fall/winter, I am now sick of it and am looking forward so very much to all things light and bright - I think it helps that it is six degrees outside today, so I am desperately yearning for weather that is appropriate for a sundress. So, I'm definitely looking ahead to the spring stock hitting shelves - and sites - and thinking about what trends I'll be going for in my wardrobe update. This spring, there were a lot of trends I loved, but just not for me. I think the 70s looks with wide-leg pants were fabulous and beautiful, but not my style at all. One thing I've learned in my quest to shop smarter and build a more cohesive wardrobe is to not lose yourself in trends. Don't just start wearing a look because it's on the runways if it's not you. You have to sort of cross-reference your own style with the current trends. No matter what's in style, I always come back to three definitive looks: grunge, urban and vintage or vintage-inspired. Somehow they all blend together to be a feminine take on a gritty look. Therefore, wide-leg pants and hot-pink blouses won't be in my closet this spring, no matter how great they look. I will be finally embarking on a minimalist journey, though, and I'll be buying color-block and minimalist-chic looks. And, of course, I'll continue on the path of deconstruction with things from designers like Alexander Wang and Raquel Allegra. Looking around on the internet, here are some must-have items that fall under the two main on-trend categories of urban and minimalism.

I'm so happy that maxi lengths are here to stay. This season, I'll be looking to up the ante with new silhouettes and asymmetric cuts, like this dress from Pixie Market.

I usually stay (the hell) away from such body-con styles, but this Diane von Furstenberg dress at Bloomingdales is minimalist perfection.

The perfect, coolest downtown way to wear springy frills - as can only be done at Bonadrag.

I've always had trouble finding the right floral-print shirt dress for spring. But this one from Asos looks like it has the most flattering fit.

An edgier way to wear spring's must-have brights if you're not such a...sunshine-y person - at Oak.

Light, frothy, spring take on the ever-covetable grunge look - Pixie Market.

Minimalist and whimsical - a pairing I thought impossible - at Pixie Market.

This camel blouse from Topshop would make sleek, Celine-esque minimalism easy.

Everywhere I look, Helena Bonham Carter gets away with hijinx like this because she's so "quirky" and "unique." I call BS. No one else would get away with this, no one would even get invited back to the Golden Globes. We can't excuse people because they live secluded in a world where Tim Burton makes 90% of released films. You can be quirky, but this is just crazy homeless lady.

Julianne Moore in Lanvin. Clearly, she got this in an Lanvin-for-H&M-esque frenzy, and fixed a torn shoulder with a throw pillowcase and then forgot to iron it.

I was so surprised to read good reviews of this everywhere, I thought it would get torn to pieces, more pieces than it's already in. I have to say, looking at it in pictures, it does look pretty gorgeous. But onstage, it looked like an ill-fitting wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen.

Mandy Moore is crazy.

I know Tilda Swinton is supposed to be this fashion icon, but I don't get it. This is Clay Aiken in his finest Easter pastels.

Annette Bening looks like a crazy high school English teacher in couture.

Sandra Bullock is gorg, so why she chooses to drown herself in hair and dress is beyond me.

True Grit: Get the Look

Minus the deer-in-headlights expression and perhaps the bucket, this could just as easily be an Urban Outfitters editorial. Who knows, maybe they would have a bucket.

I recently saw "True Grit" and aside from loving it for a plethora of reasons I won't bore you with because if you wanted that you'd go to a film blog, I was struck by something I wasn't expecting to be struck by: the fashion. Well, there wasn't much of it, since the characters were in one costume for a good bulk of the movie, but of the outfit main character, Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), wore - inspiring. This look harkens back to the late nineteenth century, which only strengthens the fact that that's how far back we're reaching for trends now. While major trends still only fall back to the 60s and 70s, this frontier look is an undeniable street trend, intrinsically cool among urban hipster and downtown on-trend-without-trying types. A utilitarian or menswear-inspired wool coat, bonus points for a big collar, plus a classic belt wrapped around the waist and add a wide-brimmed hat to nail down that countrified cool. The look has been mastered by designers specializing in that androgynous hipster chic, like Rag & Bone and Alexander Wang. But, looking at Asos and Urban Outfitters, I found a few affordable pieces to put the look together:

Rachel Zoe's New Line - Thoughts?

In addition to being with child, Rachel Zoe is now with fashion line. And not that awful QVC line that looks like Kmart back stock. No, no, this line is a bit more high fashion and so a bit more on the same level as the kind of clothing that Zoe works with for her clients. It's a relief to finally see a line from the style goddess that actually reflects influence from her favorite designers, like Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta. The looks seem much more high quality, flattering and on trend. They're not as cheap as the QVC line, rightfully so, but aren't as expensive as the designers that inspire Zoe - think $200 to $700. $200 for a dress is about right for this kind of line, but it seems like it will take some time for Zoe to gain enough cred to warrant $700 for anything.

The problem? The looks so far seem a bit generic. Zoe is definitely not breaking the mold here, that's fine. You can certainly put a line out there that celebrates classic looks that women love to wear. But there's no cohesive objective here, no theme, no vision. It really does look like the looks were pulled from favorite designers. A plaid coat here, a sequined shift there. Each outfit can stand on its own as a quality look that will be stylish and flattering, but let's hope Zoe taps into the creativity that made her famous going forward. She has time, since Refinery29 reports there's yet to be a store that will stock the line.

Lanvin Has Arrived...

Today's the day! The Lanvin for H&M lookbook hit! Finally, all the waiting has paid off. Now, all you have to do is get on line at your nearest H&M about five days before the line's November 20th launch and be prepared to slug it out for what you want in your size.

I think the line is what we both expected and hoped for, right? It's super feminine, ladylike, elegant and Parisian. Ruffles, florals and perfectly shaped silhouettes. These are definitely timeless pieces you can treasure forever. I have to admit, though, I'm slightly disappointed in prices. The dresses range from $199 to $249, there's a satin trench for $349, etc. I know, I know, it's LANVIN. We can't expect normal H&M prices. But I guess I didn't expect them to be quite so high, because, well it is a diffusion line. The point is to make a luxury item accessible to the masses, if only for a brief period of time. And I'm not sure $349 is accessible enough for everyone. I suppose being it's Lanvin and all, a level of luxury had to be maintained. Now, of course it's a lot easier to pinch our pennies and nab a $199 dress than one of Lanvin's regularly priced items...but personally, since this is a line everyone will know of as a diffusion line, I think I'll be aiming for the super cool structured skirt for $59 and maybe the sheer jacket for the same price. Just read real bad news on Refinery29: Andrew Mukamal is leaving People's Revolution. And while the original reason was said to be that the Rick Owens-obsessed assistant wants to do more style, Kelly unleashed some truth to the New York Post, saying that Mukamal was more about being on TV than being her assistant. In case you were going to try to be Team Mukamal, you should first know that the devoted assistant has already pitched his own show to E! E! As in EEEK that's bad entertainment! Blasphemy. That said, I do love Andrew and think he's fabulous, so I might have to follow Refinery29 and Switzerland's lead and stay neutral. Which is no fun.

In "would you be caught dead in..." news, or ("this is where fashion meets art" news?), check out Margiela's Spring 2011 show. It's all...square. Unwearable. Is this a statement on the superfluous, exorbitant place fashion has reached, especially in this bleak financial era? That luxury fashion is such a ridiculous concept for the average woman, even a normal high end item is avant-garde, unattainable, unwearable? Is it a statement about the coldness and hardness of fashion - is Margiela taking us away from the cozy knits that designers gave us for fall and winter to comfort us as the world spirals downward into economic doom? Is this Margiela's tough love?

Or, is it just to be weird? Because everything's been done before...is this just to get us talking? Probably.

How unbelievably uncomfortable does this model look? And, not to be cruel, but isn't she getting paid enough to refrain from making faces like this no matter how awkward her cartoon-like garb is?

Donna Karan, Fendi, Armani, Diane von Furstenberg, among others, designed 22 custom little black dresses adorned with sparkling SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS. The dresses will be auctioned at a glamorous event in NY at Philips de Pury on September 20th with 100% of the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society and La Ligue Contre le cancer in France. We hope each of the dresses represent 22 ways to find a cure."

It's a daunting task to try and report on every show that takes place over the course of Fashion Week. You can do highlights and discuss your favorite trends, but there are the few shows you have to shine a spotlight on. And one of those shows is Marc Jacobs. Never failing to disappoint, Jacobs this year achieved a true embrace of all things feminine and warm-weather-fantastic. He brought boldness back to girlish spring and summer dressing, evoking a sort of 1970's vibe in both silhouette and spirit. Prints abound, floral embellishments are oversized, separates are high-waisted and flared. Colors shout, satins shine and chiffons flow with impossible elegance. Keeping with a 1970's whimsy and sexy sensibility, exotic notes were woven in with sparkle. To exaggerate the call back to feminine dressing, exaggerated babydoll silhouettes were reminiscent of Marie Antoinette. The point? This spring will be girly, sexy, bright and bold.

I have been anxiously awaiting fall for a good month now - maybe more. I've always been more of a fall person, especially style-wise - I prefer layering, boots, tights, sweaters, fur vests and flannel...all that good stuff. But Cynthia Rowley's Spring 2011 show may have converted me. Here we are at the beginning of September, I've literally just started wearing my coveted fall buys, and I'm suddenly dying for April to hit so I can frolic in Rowley's whimsical collection.

Polka dots, stripes, pastels and brights reminded us what spring is really about, and really embodied the feminine spirit of romantic spring dressing with a sharp, city-chic edge. Rowley reinvented those pastels and polka dots with awe-inspiring studded looks so the downtown-cool girl can finally wear the more femme spring styles.

The studs reach an almost tribal point, but pull back to stay a unique and never-before-seen look that achieves the perfect balance of edgy and elegant.

I asked designer Britney Frady-Williams a few questions:

What is the inspiration for the line?

-My inspiration mostly comes from 50’s sci-fi and pulp. I enjoy watching a lot of classic sci-fi movies from that time period and got really inspired by the creativity in the costumes. The Planet Stories magazines were also an inspiration, mainly because the covers were full of spaceships, fighting women, and superheroes, and that really grabbed my attention. I wanted to create a line that is fresh and portrays strong, independent women. Sci-fi in the 1950s was surprisingly forward thinking in that manner, so revitalizing those styles for this collection seemed like a perfect fit.

How long has Berit New York been in existence?

- Berít New York has been around since April of 2007. I started the company right after I graduated from The Fashion Institute of Technology.

What has the evolution of the line been in terms of how it has gone from an idea to a line showing at LFW?

- Well, since the collection is for Spring/Summer 2011, I think the theme fits in well for the season. I wanted to focus on vintage styles and shapes but still add some quirkiness to them. The collection has really developed to include a vast array of styles everything from vintage looking swimsuits to shorts and dresses. It sort of has that 50’s flair to it as well which really makes it fun!

And what has the evolution been in terms of the concept and inspiration?

- I always try to pick a concept that is strong and multi-layered so that I have enough resources to study from. This particular concept is near and dear to me so it was easy to sketch a full collection right away. I think the main evolution of it has been in regards to the shapes and colors. I tried very hard not to create a collection that was not too costumey or too stereotypical, which is hard to do with such a popular concept. I also ventured out of my shell and went with a very light color combination which is new for me since I usually concentrate on darker colors. I think it worked out well because the colors to me, really represent the era and style.

What's on the horizon for the line?

- With this collection, I hope to branch out and reach a wider client base and well as a larger list of buyers. The collection I think sums up the style of Berít New York: fun, fresh and funky which is pretty easy to remember.

How amazing is it to wear something you know no one else will ever wear - literally? Many of us had never had the privilege, unless you count those experimental self-shredding, self-dying T-shirt attempts in eighth grade. As of today, we have a month to go until New York Fashion Week for Spring 2011. GET. PUMPED. Standing out as one of the most anticipated reasons to be in New York for September 9th to September 16th is Fashion's Night Out, which will expand its night of fashion parties and sales with the world's biggest fashion show. Oh yeah, and then there's the whole NYFW moving from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center thing. EPIC - fashion history in motion! Style.com Fall Picks

Style.com did this great piece on fall picks from some of the hottest stylists, designers and models - the likes of Rachel Zoe and Crystal Renn. I think some more key trends could have been highlighted, but it's a great piece all the same with some useful inspiration. I took some of the most fun and most practical picks and found affordable versions for ya, and I'll try to track down some more soon:

The tops are cropped this fall, and while this one is a bit more of a splurge at $95 (you know, a splurge for a crop top), it's definitely worth it when it comes to being a "wow" statement piece. All Saints.

Leather skirts are always hot and an effortless way to make your look cooler. This one's just $40 at Debenhams.

I'm so excited for the (faux!) fur trend, especially the fur cape - so old Hollywood glam. This will make even a simple top and skinny pants absolutely incredible. $55 at Debenhams.

A long sweatshirt is actually a more luxe look this fall, especially when layered under a fur-trimmed bomber or a fur vest. Try this nice oatmeal one at American Eagle for $50.

A leather bomber is timeless and can be dressed up or down. This one's just $140 at Oasis.

Thigh high boots are back! So, if you spent a fortune on them last year, you're in luck! If you didn't splurge, you still don't have to. These are $33 at UrbanOG.

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw this Alexander Wang dress on sale at Kirna Zabete. Now, I know at $304 it's still a bit pricey, but for this dress, that price is pretty damn amazing - considering that not only is this dress normally $760, but that it's such a statement piece. It's truly an investment, it's an incredible piece de resistance you'll have in your wardrobe forever.

Uniqlo Fall 2010

Lots of folks are quite enamored with Uniqlo for its massive quantities of fashionable basics at low prices. Me...not so much. I mean, I get it. Cheap fashionable basics? Why not? However, I'm not a big fan of basics, nor am I a big fan of the superstore M.O. Until Nitrolicious once again showed me the way, just as the blog recently did with Old Navy. I was pleasantly surprised with Uniqlo's Fall 2010 lookbook. I love the chunky, downtown-chic black separates that are perfect for stocking up and layering for different edgy looks. I LOVE the black coats, and I REALLY LOVE the Celine-esque camel coats. Check it out - it'll make you a Uniqlo beliver:

Cynthia Rowley Resort Wear 2011 LookBook!

A few weeks ago I posted candid shots from the preview of Cynthia Rowley's 2011 resort line. And I raved about them, because as you could see from the pictures, they were a totally unique blend of sparkling glamour, oversized structured silhouettes, vibrant colors, asymmetry and relaxed, comfortable looks. Well, I just received the finished lookbook and had to share some of the images - some of them are better versions of what I posted, and some outfits I didn't get shots of the first time around.
